It is a company of the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, established to facilitate the implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. It is the only Public Sector Undertaking dedicated to the solar energy sector. The company mandate has recently been broadened to cover the entire renewable energy domain and the company renamed to Renewable Energy.
